If you want to have the most productive workday possible, you shouldn't underestimate the importance of your lunchtime habits.

Your lunch time is an important time to fuel up and prepare for the rest of the work day. Unfortunately, a lot of workers feel that the last half the work day is the hardest to get through and stay energized for. 

By doing the following five things when you head out to your favorite lunch restaurant, you can gear up to tackle the rest of your workday. This way, you'll head home in the evening feeling satisfied with the day's accomplishments.

Reward yourself for a job well done

Eating out at a favorite lunch restaurant is a great way to reward yourself for all your hard work during the first half of the day. Eat something that you like and don't be too strict with yourself during the break. 

Take a real break and stop working for a while

A lot of people are tempted to work during their lunch break to get ahead. This is not necessarily a good idea.

If you're cramming in work throughout your entire break, you may find that you run out of energy and feel overwhelmed by the end of the day. Taking time to clear your mind and recover from the work overload is important.

If you find it hard to avoid working or discussing work when you go out to lunch with coworkers, go alone or have lunch with a friend or significant other who does not work with you. 

Eat right and eat enough

You need to find a good lunch restaurant that offers dishes that are both healthy and tasty. It's important to eat healthy foods that will satisfy and energize you.

Take your time when you eat and don't rush yourself. An upset stomach during the rest of the work day will make it difficult to stay on top of your work load. 

Go for a brisk walk on the way to your lunch restaurant

Ideally, you want to find a lunch restaurant that's located a short walk away from your place of employment. Walking to the restaurant will give you some fresh air and provide you with the opportunity to get a little exercise during your break. 

Stick to your schedule and don't procrastinate about heading back to the office

When you're having a rough day at the office, it's easy to feel tempted to stay out late and take added time to relax. However, the sooner you get back to the office, the sooner you'll get your work done and be able to go home.

Discipline is always important to success on the job. Stick to your allotted lunch break schedule to maintain productivity and to avoid raised eyebrows among your coworkers and supervisor when you return.
